Department of Fire and Rescue Services
The Warren County Department of Fire and Rescue Services is a combination fire and rescue system supported by approximately 125 active volunteers and a career staff of nineteen (19). Companies making up the County Fire and REscue Department are Front Royal VFC #1, Rivermont VFC #2, South Warren VFC #3, Linden VFC #4, Shenandoah Shores VFC #5, Shenandoah Farms VFC #6, Fortsmouth VFC #8, Chester Gap VFC #9, North Warren VFC #10 and the County's Special Operations Company #14. The Department supplements volunteers in four (4) stations; Stations #1 and #10 are staffed 24 hours a day, while Stations 2 and 4 are staffed weekdays from 0700-1700 hours. On any given day, our department has four stations staffed with 8 career personnel plus office staff assistance.
The Department responded to approximately 4,738 incidents in 2008, of which approximately 70% are emergency medical calls. We respond with 16 engines, 6 tankers, 3 attack units, 8 brush trucks, 2 trucks, 12 ambulances (8 ALS), 3 boats and Special Operations Team. We have an annual volunteer budget of $907,414 and a fire and rescue department budget of $1,388,625. On January 1, 2006, our Department began a Cost Recovery Program for EMS that bills insurance companies for EMS transports. This program has an annual income of approximately $550,000 annually.
We offer many services to our community in addition to emergency response services. Through our Fire Prevention Division, they include a "Smoke Detector Program" for the elderly and disadvantaged, Home Safety Inspection program, Courtesy Business Inspection program, standby for community functions and events, fire prevention demonstrations in the schools and at functions, etc. We conduct these public relation activities by utilizing a cooperative staff of career and volunteers. Out Training Division offers classes that make our Department self sufficient for both fire and EMS training and certifications including Firefighter I and II, EMT, Pump Operations, Truck Operations, EVOC, EMT B/I/P recert, Vehicle Extrication, Rural Water Supply among others.
Our Emergency Management Division is currently designing a new web page; one that will keep our citizens up to date on current conditions in the County plus citizen preparedness information. We'll keep you advised as to when it's up and running.
Our most recent accomplishment surrounds fire investigations. We now have two certified fire investigators on staff. They work very closely with the Warren County Sheriff's Office and Town of FRont Royal Police Department.
